Last month marked the start of my Mindset 4 Business Success Group Coaching Program for small business owners and what a fun and enthusiastic group we are!

We began by looking at what we want to achieve in the program and I shared with them the importance of always beginning with the end in mind. This is a principle I learned about 3 years ago and it is the way I have been living my life ever since.

If you don’t know where you are going, how will you know you’ve arrived!

How will you feel those feelings of excitement and motivation when you start taking the steps, the sense of achievement each time you reach those different milestones along the way and that feeling of accomplishment and success when you finally get there!

It reminds me of the family holidays we used to take when I was a child.

The sense of excitement when mum and dad told us our destination for that year and the excitement increased as the holiday approached.

How motivated I was to do little jobs and save my pocket money, a little each week, so I would have enough spending money to buy all the little treasures in the gift shops. That great feeling of accomplishment when I saw the little stash of coins I’d managed to accumulate over the weeks leading up the holidays.

How eagerly my brother and I would do the things we normally wouldn’t want to do, just to make sure that we were ready in time.

That happy feeling when we started packing the bags with mum, making sure we gathered together everything that we would need over the coming week. Watching dad planning the trip on the map the night before and then not being able to get to sleep because of the jittery feeling in our tummies.

Getting up so incredibly early the next morning, hopping in the car half asleep with the pillows and cushions, asking “how much longer till we get there?” each time we saw a road sign.

We used to watch with anticipation as dad always managed to find a short cut, down a beautiful tree lined country road that mum would call a little shady lane, a little adventure that would always get us there faster, he was really good at that!

And finally seeing that last sign, the one that showed us we had arrived. The joy we felt when we had glimpses of the sun shining on the blue sea, as we drove towards the place that would be our home for the coming week.

When you begin with the end in mind, it helps you to set really awesome and exciting goals, it helps you to break those goals down into the steps you need to take to get there and it helps you notice the things you will need along the way.

When you know what you are aiming for it will help you get over those jittery feelings in your tummy as you take those unfamiliar steps and that sense of achievement that you feel as you reach your smaller targets, will make it all worthwhile.

Beginning with the end in mind, will help you to see more possibilities and the opportunities will seem endless. It will help you to notice those road signs at exactly the right time, which will often make your journey much easier and an exciting adventure.

And, most importantly, when you know where you are going, it will help you do those things that you wouldn’t normally do, those things that are the most uncomfortable to you.

As you do this, you will begin to believe in yourself more, gain more confidence, be more motivated and courageous and become the person you need to be to have exactly the outcome that you want!

Go ahead and dream and remember that anything is possible!

If you could have anything at all, what would it be?

If you could live the life you want, what life would you choose?

You can do anything you want, anything at all!

Always begin with the end in mind!
